University - Observatory Park Home Tour Set for Saturday, May 5th

On Saturday, May 5th, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. the University Park Elementary School PTA and the University Park Community Council will hold the 3rd Annual University Park Home Tour, featuring historic homes and modern additions to this very popular Denver neighborhood. Located just south of Interstate 25 between University and Colorado Boulevards, the neighborhood was first founded around 1885 and settled as a prairie town in support of the University of Denver's move from downtown Denver.

This year's home tour, which benefits the students of University Park Elementary School, will feature the historic Chamberlin Observatory and five homes that showcase something for everyone. From the historic charm of a bygone era, to the most modern touches available in today's new construction.

Included in this year's tour is one of the first homes developed in the area by John Babcock, a town trustee and legislator. The home located at 2300 South Monroe Street, was originally situated on 25 acres and was first built in 1912 as a small rectangular farmhouse. A major addition took place in 1929 adding a second wing and transforming the home into its current form as a lovely manor. Today the home remains a beautiful example of exquisite craftsmanship and design.

Another spectacular home on the tour, located at 2270 South Adams Street, was custom built by Westfall Building Group, LLC in 2006. The home takes the term 'smart house' to new levels. Automation and convenience blend with traditional Italian architecture complimented by spacious porches and balconies off almost every room. This truly stately home showcases today's top high tech elements and exquisite architectural details.

Also included in the home tour, is a wonderful example of a "healthy built green" home. Located at 2501 South Fillmore Street, this home is a unique experience, in its urban setting, from the wildflower gardens to the home's industrial metal roof. Designed and built in 2001 by the homeowners, in a pseudo northern New Mexico territorial style, this home is truly a work of art both inside and out. This home is a true example of conscientious building with the use of non-toxic, sustainable and recycled products throughout.

Tickets for this year's tour can be purchased for $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the event.

Advance tickets can be purchased at GUIRY'S Paint, Interior Design and Art Supplies located in the University Hills Plaza at 2468 South Colorado Boulevard.
