Ellis Elementary Is Celebrating International Day On Thursday, May 3
International Day is a tradition at Ellis Elementary School. With 25 different languages spoken at Ellis, International Day - this year on May 3 - is truly a celebration of cultures. It is also a culmination of the work students have done in their classrooms. Each classroom chooses a country to study. On the morning of May 3, each primary classroom pairs up with an intermediate classroom to present what they have learned via an original game, play, song or story.
At 12:30 p.m., students, parents, and members of the community will gather on our new Learning Landscape to begin a parade around the block. This year the parade will be lead by a Scottish bagpiper. Many students dress in their country's traditional costumes. After the parade, the students circulate through stations such as tasting International Cuisine under our colorful World Bazaar Tents, dancing folk dances, singing folk songs, watching International Entertainment, playing international games, and making art. There will also be an opportunity to see displays about the countries the students studied.
This year, our International Day is dedicated to Frederick and Jan Mayer for their support of Ellis Students and commitment to School Excellence.
