Bring Your Parent To School Day At Smith Elementary On Friday, April 27
On Friday, April 27, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Smith Elementary's Parent Leadership Team will be hosting their second annual "Bring Your Parent to School Day". Held the day after the traditional "Bring Your Child to Work Day", the purpose of this event is to spread the word about the importance of parent involvement, particularly in urban schools. According to research, students whose parents are effectively involved in their education:
- earn higher grades
- receive higher scores on tests
- attend school more regularly
- complete more homework
- demonstrate more positive attitudes and behaviors,
- graduate from high school at higher rates
- are more likely to enroll in higher education than students with less involved families.
Throughout the day, parents will attend seminars that focus on building meaningful relationships with their children, getting their kids into the homework habit, reading, nutrition, and neighborhood safety. In addition, parents will have an opportunity to visit their children's classrooms.
Smith Elementary is located at 3590 Jasmine, Denver. Please call Jason Sanders at 720-281-3540 for further information.
