Annual Denver Destination Imagination Tournament To Be Held At Dps's George Washington High

WHAT: Destination ImagiNation is an international program that emphasizes creative problem solving and teamwork. Students, working in teams of 2-7, have been working for several weeks to prepare their solutions to one of five competitive challenges and one non-competitive challenge designed for students in grade two and younger. The challenges are:

DIrect Flight: a challenge that involves team-created and built aircraft that will fly into designated areas.

CSI: DI, a challenge that requires the use of color, a colorful character, and a shadowy character to investigate and solve a case.

Round About Courage:, a challenge in which the teams will present in theater-in-the-round a story about a heroic character.

Switching traditions: a challenge that requires teams to create an improvisational performance at the tournament about traditions in countries other than the United States.

Card-DI-ology: a challenge that will test the weight bearing ability of structures built out of playing cards

Make It New, It's Up To You: the non-competitive challenge that includes a play about a landmark.

WHO: 123 teams are scheduled to participate in the competition. Participating DPS schools include: Asbury, Bradley, Bromwell, Brown, Carson, Centennial, Cory, Denver School of the Arts, Ellis, Fairmont, Florida Pitt Waller, Goldrick, Grant Ranch, Greenwood, Highline Academy, Kepner, Knight, McGlone, McKinley-Thatcher, Montclair, Morey, Odyssey Charter, Palmer, Park Hill, Polaris at Ebert, Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning, Sabin, Schenck, Slavens, Smedley, Smiley, Southmoor, Steck, Steele, Teller, University Park, Wyman, Students on a combined High School Team from George Washington, East, Denver School of the Arts

WHEN: Saturday, April 14, 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., followed by a 7:30 awards ceremony
