The DPS Hispanic Education Advisory Council (HEAC) is seeking student, parent, and educator nominations for the 4th Annual HEAC Awards. Last year HEAC received over 100 nominations and this year they are hoping to double the number of nominations. The awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Tivoli Turnhalle on the Auraria Campus 900 Auraria Parkway, Denver, Colorado.

This Awards Program is designed to recognize Hispanic Students, Educators, and Parents and Community members in Elementary, Middle and High School, for their achievements. The Hispanic Education Advisory Council strongly believes that awards or some form of recognition is vital in building self-esteem. We also believe that such awards will encourage and develop self-improvement, create motivation to achieve academically, and enhance relationships between schools, parents, students, and the business community.

Student Recognition Award (6 Students-2 per level): We are asking school staff to identify Hispanic Students whom you feel are deserving of recognition in any area of school life.

Educator Award (3 Educators-1 per level): We are asking parents, students and educators to identify educators that have strived to ensure that Hispanic students are given every tool to succeed. These are the educators who think outside of the box and are not afraid to implement new strategies.

Parent Involvement Award (3 Parents-1 per level): We are asking for parents, teachers and administrators to identify parents who are involved in their schools. These are the parents who are always willing and able to contribute. These are the parents who spend extra time in the schools assisting in developing a positive role model for students, teachers and other parents. Additionally they may have shown through their efforts, action, and leadership a commitment to improving the learning experience of Hispanic students enrolled in the DPS community.
