Hill Campus Of Arts And Sciences Hosts Speaker Series
Slate of Culturally Diverse Guests to Promote Intellectual Pursuits
Wednesday morning, February 21, 2007 from 8:15 - 9:00 a.m., marks the third in a series of speakers to visit Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences. The luminaries, hosted by Dr. James Mann, an internist and gastroenterologist and retired chief of staff of St. Anthony Hospital, over the course of the school year, will speak to sixth, seventh and eighth graders on the choices they made growing up. This month's speaker is The Honorable Ray Jones, a retired appellate judge, practicing attorney and Metropolitan State College professor.
Mr. Don Roy, principal of Hill, in response to an article in Gifted Child Today, "Enhancing Culturally Diverse Males' Scholar Identity: Suggestions for Educators of Gifted Students," by Gilman W. Whiting, collaborated with Ms. Cassie Perlmutter, the school's Gifted and Talented teacher, to create a speakers' bureau. "This is a first step in acquainting our students with prominent African-American members of the community who are where they are by virtue of educational excellence." Mr. Roy 's hope is that upon exposure to this array of leaders, students will be inspired to follow similar paths.
