Denver Public Schools Student Athletes Receive Over $500,000 In NCAA Scholarships
Denver Public Schools is proud to announce that over $500,000 in scholarships is being awarded to DPS student athletes. Students representing multiple DPS high schools have signed their letters of intent and will be competing next year on the national stage.
On last week's national signing day, 8 DPS student athletes made commitments to their respective schools and are receiving athletic scholarships. The following schools are represented:
Thomas Jefferson High School:
- Nigel Nelson, Ian Kane, Lawrence Barker, and Alphonzo Moore to the University of Northern Colorado Football Team.
- Ivory Allen to the Trinidad University Softball Team.
- Janette Jackson to the Missouri State University Basketball Team.
South High School:
- John Ellsworth to the University of Northern Colorado Football Team.
East High School:
- Blake Swain, its first football player in 12 years to a Division I program, to the Colorado State Rams Football Team.
"These students exemplify what it means to be a student athlete. They have proven their ability to balance the rigors of their athletic programs while maintaining strong academic performance. I could not be more proud of these students and am excited to watch as they continue their education," said Superintendent Michael Bennet.
These student athletes will be attending their respective schools for the 2007-2008 academic school year.
