Bromwell Elementary Honors Million Word Readers, Launches School-Wide Recycling January 12, 2006

Bromwell Elementary School recognized 22 students who have already achieved a reading goal of over one million words read this school year at an assembly on January 12.

The Million Words Campaign encourages students to read as much as possible every day and every night and keep track of books and other materials ready. Bromwell's campaign is "Word Up", with students keeping track of words read on arrows pointing to the sky.

In addition, the assembly marked the kick-off of a school-wide recycling program through Bromwell's student council. Bromwell has contracted with Waste Management, Inc., to have a recycling bin on campus. School staff collected recycling tubs formerly used by City of Denver residents as part of the city's recycling program. Those tubs were replaced by rolling collection bins over the past two years, and the old tubs were sitting in a storage site near the Denver Zoo. The recycling program through Waste Management, Inc., includes weekly pick-up costs. Those costs will be covered by an additional recycling campaign where used cell phones and empty ink cartridges are collected and purchased by a national recycling company. Therefore, Bromwell's two-tier recycling program will be self-sufficient. Bromwell parents will be encouraged to drop off this equipment at school beginning this month.

Bromwell Elementary School is located at 2500 East Fourth Avenue in Denver. For more information, contact Bromwell@dpsk12.org. or call at 303-388-5969.
