Center For International Studies Foundation To Host Benefit Dinner Featuring The Honorable Timothy E. Wirth
The Denver Center for International Studies (DCIS) has just opened in its "new home" as an expanded Denver Public School (DPS) magnet school for middle and high school students. To celebrate this milestone, the Center for International Studies Foundation will host a "Grand Opening Benefit Dinner" featuring Timothy Wirth, former Colorado U.S. Senator and now President of the United Nations Foundation
The event will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Grand Hyatt Denver, 1750 Welton Street, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The program for the evening promises to be timely and energizing; focusing on the importance of international education, especially as Denver grows as an international hub for business and tourism. In addition to the keynote address by Timothy Wirth, Denver Public Schools Superintendent Michael Bennet will speak about this extraordinary program.
"The celebration dinner will highlight the exemplary international curriculum being taught at the school, where CSAP scores are above the DPS average and 95% of the students go on to college. Our goal is for DCIS to become the best secondary public school focusing on international curriculum in the United States," explains dinner committee member and also former DPS Board of Education member, Elaine Gantz Berman.
The mission of this 20-year-old program is simple: to help graduates meet the current and future challenges of a changing world by preparing students to enter the fields of global business, government relations, and global service. The curriculum features courses in five languages and classes that emphasize international affairs. This event will support the development of tomorrow's global citizens by providing funds necessary for student exchange, foreign language, and study abroad programs.
The cost per individual ticket for this important event is $125. Tickets can now be purchased online at www.blacktie-colorado.com/rsvp, enter event code: CISCelebration (all one word) or by phone at 720-231-7967. Event sponsorships are also available and range from $1,250 to $10,000. To become an event sponsor, contact Rebecca Caldwell at cisfoundation@hotmail.com or call 720-231-7967.
BACKGROUND
DCIS was established in 1985 as a magnet program at Denver's West High School. The Denver School Board confirmed its importance to the community in 2005 by voting to make it a stand-alone magnet school in its own building located at 574 West 6th Avenue. It is now poised to serve many more students and has expanded to include sixth grade in 2006. It will include seventh and eighth grades in subsequent years.
The CIS Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established to support the DCIS magnet school. The foundation seeks to realize the resources necessary for the development of tomorrow's global citizens.
