New Reading Program At Whiteman Elementary School Starting Wednesday, October 11
Commander Keesee, who is a DPS graduate, looked for a way to give back to the community and to make a difference in education. She set out to develop a reading program by pairing police officers with young students. Commander Keesee and some officers of Police Station District 3 adopted the first graders at Whiteman Elementary School.
The reading program will kick off at Whiteman on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 in Mrs. Carlisle's 1st grade classroom at 10 a.m.
In addition to giving their time reading to the children, the officers have donated $500.00 toward the purchase of new books for the school. These dedicated community members hope, that sharing the joy of reading will be as valuable as the positive interaction the youngsters experience with their "police buddies".
Whiteman Elementary School is located at 451 Newport Street. Telephone: 303-355-7333.
Officer Phillip Epple can be reached at 720-913-1178.
