Best-Selling Author Mitch Albom To Speak At East High School Community Forum On Monday, October 30

Mitch Albom, author of eight books, including The New York Times bestseller, "The Five People you meet in Heaven," and the international bestseller "Tuesdays With Morrie," will be the keynote speaker at the East High Community Forum on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. in the East High Auditorium at 1545 Detroit Street, Denver.

The newly restored east high library will be unveiled following the keynote address.

At the event, co-sponsored by the East High School PTSA, the Angel Foundation and the Tattered Cover Bookstore, Albom will discuss and sign copies of his new and second novel, "For One More Day." In the book, Albom delivers a powerful meditation on family as he writes the story of a man who gets one last chance with the mother who sacrificed everything for him. The new novel is written in the potent, quiet style that has won reader and critical acclaims in the past.

Following Albom's address, guests will be invited to East High's third floor, as city, state and school officials unveil the newly restored library. The library, which opened in 1925, has undergone minor renovations through the years, but none that brought it back to its original beauty until now. The project began in March 2004 and since then a team of East High parent volunteers and community supporters worked hard to raise the over $300,000 to complete the project. The State Historical Fund provided a grant of $143,600 towards the restoration.

"We are excited to combine the unveiling of our restored school library with our community Forum, headlined by the well-known author, Mitch Albom," said Kathy Callum, East High School Principal. "Mr. Albom's success in the world of literature, and his love of the written word, pairs nicely with the East High community's love of the library and our goal to maintain its historic significance while updating it with today's technology."

The East High Community Forum is an annual event that raises money to support grants for student projects and needs that fall outside of the Denver Public School budget. The event is underwritten by corporate, individual and foundation gifts that allow East High to price tickets moderately and benefit a broader community. Past speakers have included Carl Bernstein, Alex Kotlowitz, Harry Wu, Rubin Carter, Rick Reilly, John Dean and Dr. Mel Levine.

Tickets for the Community Forum are $30 for patrons, which include priority seating, $15 for adults and $5 for students. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 720.423.8313 or email communityforum@ehangelfoundation.org.
