Denver Spellbinders Announces Dates for Its Next Training Class
Denver Spellbinders is a chapter of National Spellbinders, an organization that trains and supports adults in telling stories to young people. The 40 members of the Denver chapter tell stories in over 50 Denver Public Schools.
The chapter is looking for new tellers, adults with enthusiasm and commitment. Enthusiasm to be with young people in classroom settings - usually for half-hour telling sessions in one or more classrooms once a month. Enthusiasm to learn how to be a good storyteller. Commitment to attend the volunteer training - 4 three-hour sessions - for a reasonable fee of $35. Commitment to tell stories in Denver Public Schools (during school hours).
Denver Spellbinders supports its members through educational programs and connections with other tellers at its monthly member meetings and through shadowing and mentoring opportunities with experienced tellers.
When volunteers give of their time and energy telling stories in Denver Public Schools, they will enjoy the thrill of being involved in the world of storytelling; of connecting with young people and getting their heart-felt appreciations for bringing excitement into their classrooms and for being another helping person in their lives. (The teachers also love Spellbinders for the contribution they make to students' learning.)
The dates for the next training class are Monday October 9, Wednesday October 11, Monday October 16, and Wednesday October 18. The sessions run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Virginia Village Library, 1500 South Dahlia, Denver Participants must attend all four sessions. Registration deadline is Tuesday October 3.
Potential tellers who are not quite ready to attend the October training can come and visit Denver Spellbinders at any of its monthly meetings to learn more and to be kept informed about future trainings. The group meets on the second Thursday of every month, September through May, from 1-2:30 p.m. at Decker Library, 1501 South Logan, Denver.
