DPSRS Names New Executive Director

The Denver Public Schools Retirement System (DPSRS) Board of Trustees has named Norman L. Ruggles as its new Executive Director effective no later than November 1, 2006. Contract negotiations are underway. Mr. Ruggles will replace John MacPherson, Interim Executive Director, who is retiring. Mr. MacPherson has been associated with the Denver Public Schools for 34 years and has served as the DPSRS Interim Executive Director since January 1, 2006.

Mr. Ruggles has been the Executive Director for the Seattle City Employees' Retirement System for the past six years. He has nineteen years of experience working in the public pension sector. Before the year 2000, Mr. Ruggles was employed with the Fire and Police Pension Association of Colorado (FPPA) as Deputy Executive Director and Assistant General Counsel, and earlier in his career, worked as an attorney in a large full-service firm in Denver.

Mr. Ruggles is a product of the Denver Public Schools, having graduated from South High School after attending all grades in DPS. He graduated from Colorado State University and University of Tulsa College of Law. Upon learning of his selection, Mr. Ruggles said, "It is an honor to have been selected by the Board of Trustees. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work with the Board and staff, and with the members of the Retirement System."
