William "Bill" Roberts School Set To Take "Official" Flight At Stapleton - Dedication Ceremony Friday, September 15
Denver Public Schools will formally dedicate William Roberts School on Friday, September 15, at 1:30 p.m.
Members of the Board of Education, Denver Public Schools administration, staff, parents, students and community members will all participate in the ceremony that will include student musical performances, singing, remarks from the Roberts family, DPS Superintendent Michael Bennet, City Council President Michael Hancock and others.
The ceremony will celebrate a one-of-a-kind collaboration between Denver Public Schools, Denver Urban Renewal Authority (DURA), and Forest City Stapleton, Inc. DURA funded the construction costs for the project and Forest City Stapleton Development donated the land for the building site.
This new state-of-the-art building is built for energy conservation. Each classroom has its own individual heat pump and thermostat that will provide DPS costs savings in operating expenses. Another feature for energy conservation includes the Integrated Building Automated System that automatically dims corridor lighting based on the amount of ambient light available. Additionally, the irrigation system will use recycled water from Denver Water.
The school is named after William "Bill" Roberts whose contributions to the city of Denver and the state of Colorado include: Deputy Mayor under Federico Pena, Denver city councilman, Board President of the Denver Water Board, Manager of Public Works, and he served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce.
Roberts School is the first of three new schools that Denver Public Schools will dedicate this fall. The other schools are Farrell B. Howell K-8 School, located in Montbello; and Florida Pitt-Waller K-8 School, located in Green Valley Ranch.
