Pupil Assistance Fund Receives $15,000 Grant from A. V. Hunter Trust, Inc.
The A. V. Hunter Trust awarded the DPS Pupil Assistance Fund (PAF) $15,000 for the 2006-2007 school year. The PAF will use the grant dollars to provide emergency assistance for such items as glasses, winter coats, and medicated shampoo and other health supplies to students from low-income families. The A.V. Hunter Trust funds will provide 250 students with a winter coat, 55 students with glasses and eye exams and 1450 students with medicated shampoo, basic hygiene items or other health supplies.
The DPS Pupil Assistance Fund is dedicated to assisting students to improve their functioning in school and community. Among the services provided to over 6,437 students last year were 714 eye exams and glasses, 698 winter coats, 428 new school clothing, 800 ARC Thrift Store vouchers. 1057 bus tokens for emergency/health related transportation. Qualifying students also received 115 cases of diapers for the (Teen Parent Program) and another 2740 students received medicated shampoo or hygiene kits.
Students who meet the federal guidelines established for subsidized school lunches are eligible for assistance. Each request for the Pupil Assistance Fund is made through the school nurse, social worker, or psychologist.
A. V. Hunter Trust, Inc. provides financial assistance to charitable institutions or projects in the state of Colorado that provide direct assistance to children, aged persons, or indigent adults.
