Manual HS Resource Center Announces New Coordinator
The Manual Academic Resource Center (MARC) announced the appointment of Dan Reed as the Center's new coordinator. Reed will implement the Center's mission – to provide support to Manual students and their families. Reed was selected by a search committee that included: Ted Travis – Neighborhood Ministries and Metro Organizations for People (MOP), Marge Lentz – MARC Education Specialist, Simone Williams – Manual student and member of the MARC Youth Leadership Team and Manual Renewal Community Council, Asia Taylor – Manual student and member of MARC Youth Leadership Team, and additional support from Happy Haynes – Special Assistant to the Superintendent.
"There were three qualities we felt we needed for this position," said Ted Travis – selection committee member and president of Neighborhood Ministries. "We felt the ultimate candidate needed strong leadership ability, a commitment to the community, and capacity to get the job done. I'm convinced Dan excels in all three areas and I'm excited about what he brings both to the MARC and to our community."
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dan graduated from Geneva College located in Beaver Falls, PA. Reed graduated with a bachelor's degree in history and served as youth director for Chapel Presbyterian Church from 2002-2004 and again from 2005-2006. Dan has also served as a high school tutor and mentor at the Pittsburgh Project, a Pittsburgh-based community development organization.
