Krisana Park Modern Home Tour 2006 "Goes Back To School" To Benefit Arts Program At Ellis Elementary School

Mid-century Modern Homes Open Their Doors to the Public in an Event Combining 50s-styled Architecture and Design with Contemporary Arts Education

The Denver neighborhood of Krisana Park, a unique collection of mid-century modern homes built by Brad Wolff and inspired by California Contemporary builder and developer Joseph Eichler, will host a home tour and student art exhibit on Sunday, September 10, 2006, 1:00-5:00 pm.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the arts program at Ellis Elementary School, a vibrant multi-cultural K-5 school bordering the Southeast Denver neighborhood in the heart of Virginia Village. "It's rare for a community to reach out to its schools in a way that could make a big impact. It's rewarding to see the appreciation, excitement and cooperation that the principal and staff of Ellis bring to this collaboration," says Jan Ramos, Krisana Park resident and one of the event organizers.

"We are very excited to be in partnership with our Krisana Park neighbors," says Khoa Nguyen, principal of Ellis. "The home tour is going to be fun, fun, fun for all ages and we hope all our Ellis Elementary families and friends will be out to support this effort."

Introducing the theme "It's Elementary," the tour will feature eight homes distinguished by their clean, simple lines and elegant landscaping that reference California's casual indoor-outdoor living. The theme plays out further in an innovative educational art project created and presented by Ellis Elementary School specifically for the home tour.

Students will produce a photography exhibit that documents and expresses the trademark architectural and design elements of Krisana Park's mid-century residences. Tutorials covering the fundamentals of modern architecture design and construction, and a workshop on guidelines for composing a photograph for documentary and fine arts imagery, will be conducted during the first three weeks of the new school year. Photographer and spatial designer Dan Jahn, principal of Shift Digital Studio, will oversee the project and mount the exhibit.

Check-in for the home tour and other highlights will be staged in a lovely outdoor garden at 1388 S. Edison Way. The setting will be the venue for the photography exhibit, 50s-style music performed by Ellis students, refreshments and informal gathering.

Krisana Park is located in Southeast Denver's Virginia Village district and is bordered by S. Dahlia, S. Filbert, E. Louisiana and E. Florida streets.
