Press Release From Denver Public Schools And Oakwood Homes

Denver Public Schools and Oakwood Homes announce a new collaborative partnership focused on providing Denver Public Schools employees with access to affordable housing. In anticipation of market needs and because of their long standing commitment to public education, Oakwood Homes has created a new collection of single family homes from approximately 900 - 1,600 square feet affordably priced from the $130s that are being offered to DPS employees among a few other groups before the public.

"This partnership will enable our employees to realize their dream of homeownership," said DPS Superintendent Michael Bennett. "This is another exciting initiative on which we've partnered with Oakwood Homes."

For nearly ten years, Oakwood Homes, through the Foundation for Educational Excellence, has partnered with Denver Public Schools on new school development, school reform, and community engagement regarding critical K-12 educational issues in the Green Valley Ranch and Montbello neighborhoods. The non-profit Foundation for Educational Excellence was founded in 1997 by Pat Hamill, Chairman & CEO of Oakwood Homes to bring together the important link between community building and quality schools for sustainable, healthy, and vibrant community development.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of every Oakwood home goes back to the foundation to be reinvested in targeted educational projects in partnership with local school districts. Recent DPS projects include the Martin Luther King Jr. Early College High School, Montbello High School Revitalization, Northeast Quadrant Principals Leadership Forum, and Omar D. Blair Charter School.

"As a developer and homebuilder, Oakwood Homes is fully committed to Denver Public Schools and offering affordable homes to their employees is an essential part of this commitment. One of my goals is to have teachers who teach in our schools live in the communities that they teach in, because that is what community is all about," said Pat Hamill, CEO of Oakwood Homes.
