Palmer Elementary School Stages Its Own Shakespeare Festival Wednesday, May 17
The DPS Shakespeare Festival (Friday, May 12 in downtown Denver) is a prestigious opportunity to gather with thousands of other students in celebration of the Bard.
However, Palmer Elementary School wanted to provide exposure to the brilliance of William Shakespeare to all 300 of its students. Palmer is taking a group of fourth and fifth-grade students to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for the district-wide event on May 12, but the school will also hold its first annual Palmer Shakespeare Festival on Wednesday, May 17 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
The day begins with a Maypole dance and an opening ceremony. Three stages will each host three programs per stage. Third, fourth and fifth-grade classrooms will perform an abridged version of Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest and The Comedy of Errors. Kindergartners will quote famous Shakespeare lines and the second graders will perform Renaissance dances. Come one, come all! The school will have goodies for sale, too.
Palmer Elementary School is located at 995 Grape St. For more information, contact Nancy Nyhus at 720-424-5023.
