DAEOP Raises Funds For Two High School Scholarships, Announces Winners

The Denver Association of Educational Office Professionals (DAEOP) consists of nearly 600 secretaries, accountants, bookkeepers, library technicians, supply clerks, data processors and office support personnel who work and serve on the front lines in Denver Public Schools.

Throughout the school year. DAEOP sells See's candy bars as a fundraiser that enables high school seniors to continue their education. DAEOP members work very hard to assure a successful fundraiser so that the organization can award scholarships to high school students.

The 2005-2006 scholarship winners are Thuy Nguyen from Abraham Lincoln High School and Dathao Nguyen from Southt High School.

The DAEOP scholarships are awarded every spring. Applicants are required to demonstrate a strong interest in a business career. The scholarship committee selects from a pool of candidates and awards two scholarships of $800 each to students who fulfill a variety of requirements. These students will be able to receive $500 each for the consecutive three years, or if necessary and justified, four years of college, provided they apply again and meet certain criteria.

This scholarship program has helped and supported many fine DPS students and DAEOP frequently receives personalized thank you notes, especially in the second and third year, when students realize that the scholarships are useful.

See's Chocolate Bars sit on counters and desks throughout the district. Buy one or two, ask about gift certificates and help DAEOP help students succeed.
