Skateboarding Program Comes To Maria Mitchell's Physical Education Classes May 8 - 12; First Denver School To Teach Skateboarding

Maria Mitchell ECE - 6 School will be the first school in Denver to teach a skateboarding curriculum in physical education classes. A locally owned firm, Skate Pass, created the curriculum, which was approved by the district for safety and effectiveness this year.

In September, the Skate Pass program will roll out to schools across the country. Skate Pass instructor Eric Klassen will teach the skateboarding sessions along with Tyler Crippen, Maria Mitchell physical education teacher.

Skate Pass offers a three-part curriculum that teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced skateboarding to elementary, middle school, and high school students. The beginning curriculum is designed for one week of instruction (two class periods). The intermediate and advanced curriculums are designed for further instruction, which can be taught in ongoing class periods, in before/after school programs or in school clubs. The curriculums are designed to develop a foundation of basic skateboarding skills and an understanding of skateboarding etiquette.

For more information, please contact Eric Klassen at (303) 527-2914 or eric@skatepass.com or Tyler Crippen at Maria Mitchell at (720) 424-5489.

Maria Mitchell ECE - 6 is located at 1350 E. 33rd Avenue.
