Brown International Elementary School's Joe Ortega Named "Nurse Of The Year"
Brown International Elementary School is pleased to announce that school nurse Joe Ortega has been awarded the prestigious "Nurse of the Year" title from the Colorado Association of School Nurses (CASN).
"This is a huge recognition for Mr. Ortega. We congratulate him wholeheartedly and sincerely appreciate his efforts at our school," said assistant principal Becky Zachmeier.
Ortega will be honored at the CASN annual banquet on Friday, April 21 at the Inverness Hotel (200 Inverness Drive West) in Englewood. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25. Anyone wishing to attend should please call Brown for banquet information.
Ortega has been with Denver Public Schools for 18 years. He has worked at Fairmont, McGlone, Southmoor, Greenlee, Del Pueblo and Brown elementary schools. Prior to his career with DPS, Ortega worked in home care administration and also as a hospice nurse and he has served on multiple district and community committees for the school district.
Ortega was elected by his peers for DPS school nurse of the year, which made him eligible for the state nomination. He is now eligible to be elected National School Nurse of the Year.
