Observatory Park Homes To Throw Open Doors For Home Tour Sunday, May 7

The second annual Observatory/University Park home tour will showcase some of the neighborhood's exceptional houses from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2006.

The home tour will benefit University Park Elementary School. The tour will feature five homes in this unique neighborhood, known for its rich history and eclectic architecture. In addition, the historic Chamberlin Observatory will be open as part of the tour from 1 - 4 p.m.

Last year, the tour drew nearly 700 attendees and raised about $9,000 for the school's PTA. The money helped pay for a reading assistant, math workbooks and air conditioners that keep classrooms bearable when school starts in August.

Organizers are hoping to double attendance this year. Revenue will be used to decrease class size and retain the school's physical education program.

Tickets for this year's event cost $12 if bought in advance or $15 on the day of the event.

On the day of the event, tickets will be on sale at University Park Elementary School (2300 S. Saint Paul Street, two blocks south of Evans Ave). Advance tickets can be purchased at Weaver's Texaco (2945 E. Evans Ave.) or at www.blacktie-colorado.com .

"We hope to build on the success of last year's home tour with another great group of houses," said Kelly Scarborough, a University Park parent who is co-chair of this year's event. "This has become one of University Park Elementary School's best fundraisers. With district-wide budget cuts, these extra funds help us maintain the school's high academic standards."
