DPS Pupil Assistance Fund Receives $20,000 From Post-News Season To Share

DPS Pupil Assistance Fund this week received $20,000 from the Post-News Season To Share to fund basic medical, clothing, and mental health emergency assistance to DPS students from low-income families.

The 2005/2006 Post-News Season To Share campaign raised a record-breaking $1.7 million that was distributed to 56 Denver-area nonprofit agencies. For 13 years, Post-News Season To Share has raised charitable donations that are matched and disbursed to local nonprofit organizations serving children, the homeless, the hungry and those in need of medical care. Funds are raised through reader and community donations, and each dollar donated is matched with 50 cents by the McCormick Tribune Foundation (up to the first million raised). The Denver Newspaper Agency and the McCormick Tribune Foundation pay all administrative costs, allowing 100 percent of donations to go directly to charitable organizations. In total, the campaign has raised and distributed over $17.7 million.

The DPS Pupil Assistance Fund will use its Post-News Season To Share funding to provide clothing, shoes, vision exams/glasses, dental care, medicated shampoo, emergency medications, school materials, and other emergency services for DPS students from low-income homes.  Referrals to the DPS Pupil Assistance Fund are made through school nurses, psychologists, and social workers.
