Donna Shocks, Manager Of Nursing Services, Named "School Nurse Administrator Of The Year"

Donna Shocks, Manager of Nursing Services for Denver Public Schools, has been named the 2006 "School Nurse Administrator of the Year" by the Colorado Association of School Nurses.

The recognition ceremony will be Friday, April 21 at the CASN annual banquet at the Inverness Hotel (200 Inverness Drive West) in Englewood. The event will start at 6:00 pm. With the award, Shocks is eligible to receive the national recognition by the National Association of School Nurses (NASN).

"Donna is completely deserving of this award and we couldn't be more proud of her," said John Leslie, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. "She has been instrumental in the success which Nursing Services has had in serving the students of the Denver Public Schools."

Shocks holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing and a Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification in Psychiatric Nursing. Shocks' area of expertise is Psychiatric Mental Health/Community Health Nursing.

Shock was hired by Denver Public Schools in 1996 and served as the school nurse at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School for one year prior to accepting the position as Manager of Nursing Services in 1997.

Shocks said she was "extremely humbled" by the award.

At the same banquet, Brown International Elementary School's Joe Ortega also will be awarded the prestigious "Nurse of the Year" title from CASN.
