Northwest Coalition 4 Better Schools Hosts 20th Annual Fair On Saturday, April 22 At North High School

The NW Coalition 4 Better Schools is celebrating 20 years of working on behalf of northwest Denver schools that feed into North and West high schools. The coalition's 20th Annual NW Schools Fair will be held on Saturday, April 22 at North High School beginning at 7:30 a.m. with a breakfast and awards program.

Awards will be given for "Viking of Excellence," "Cowboy of Excellence," "NW Notable," "Donna Lucero Community Service to Schools," and "Ellen L. Torres, Going Above and Beyond." Facility managers also receive an award for well kept school grounds and for "Friendliest School".

Students are also recognized for Battle of the Books, an essay contest, and an art contest with prizes ranging up to a $500 savings bond. Performances will also be held in the school Counseling Center and Auditorium from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Throughout the day, the Bryant-Webster Chess Club, sponsored by fourth grade teacher Joe DeRose and fifth grade teacher Karla Suarez, will be playing demonstration matches against themselves and anyone interested in a challenging game of Chess.

El Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant Webster will perform in the auditorium at 11:30 a.m. and the vocal performance class will present a Choir Showcase from 1:30 - 2 p.m. with music from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's.

In all, the fair will have booths from 29 schools in northwest Denver, food, and participation from the Denver police and fire departments. The event is a celebration of the fantastic achievements by northwest Denver children.
