Media Advisory: Dell Techknow Program Celebrated In Denver, Where It All Began

Superintendent Michael Bennet will lead a celebration Wednesday of a program that has reached 1,700 Denver students and more than 10,000 nationwide.

WHAT: Assembly and media event celebrating the nationwide success of the Dell TechKnow program, which began as "Learn & Earn" in Denver Public Schools in 1998 to combat the student dropout rate and to provide students with home access to technology.

WHEN: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 12

WHERE: Rishel Middle School Cafeteria, 451 South Tejon Street, Denver

VISUALS: Middle school students participating in the Dell TechKnow program will demonstrate their computer skills, including taking apart and putting together a computer, loading and using software and accessing the Internet.

WHO: DPS Superintendent Michael F. Bennet will join Dell executives and other school leaders to address how the Dell TechKnow program is preparing Denver students to be successful in today's digital world. DPS leaders and Dell executives will be available for interviews at the event's conclusion.

About Dell TechKnow

Dell TechKnow is a 40-hour after-school, self-paced course in which students work in teams to learn computer basics, including taking a computer apart, putting it back together, loading and using Microsoft Office software and using the Internet. Upon completion of the course students earn a refurbished Dell desktop computer, operating system and software to take home, so that they can become coaches and mentors to other family members.
