Fundraiser For North High School's Black Masque Theatre Company Is Thursday, March 23 At The Ogden Theatre
A fundraiser for North High School's Black Masque Theatre Company will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23 at the Ogden Theatre with special guest hosts Mayor John Hickenlooper and Helen Thorpe. A silent auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by cocktails at 7 p.m. and a performance of "Simply Maria" at 8 p.m.
All proceeds from the fundraiser go toward collecting over $60,000 that's needed to send 15 members of the school's Black Masque Theatre Company to Scotland for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, one of the most prestigious art events in the world, to represent Denver in the American High School Theatre Festival. North High School was selected from hundreds of applicants from all over North America.
Tickets to the March 23 event are $40 and include food from several local restaurants, complimentary beer and wine, a silent auction and mariachi music.
Tickets are available at www.nipp.com, North High School and Twist and Shout Records. Donations are also welcome.
Black Masque Theatre Company became the first high school group ever to perform at the Buell Theatre with 2004's "Zoot Suit," a production that gained the attention of Westword, the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News and even landed some of its stars in the New York Times. The following year, Black Masque was back at the Buell with "One Love," a hip-hop musical written entirely by the students.
