"Four Decades At Balarat" Reflects On Outdoor Education Experiences
The Balarat Citizen's Advisory Council has published "Four Decades At Balarat," written by a former director and staff member James Wright.
Quoting from the back cover: "This book summarizes an important piece of the history of Denver Public Schools Balarat Outdoor Education Center. DPS is one of the few school districts in Colorado that owns an outdoor education oriented campus and this account encapsulates the human, natural, man-made, and pedagogical matter that has fashioned what it is today. Born of a visionary's dream, Balarat continues to provide outdoor education experiences to thousands of urban students annually."
The book includes over 100 photographs of Balarat staff, students and landscapes. It also chronicles the development of Balarat from its earliest days through 2002, analyzes the program success in meeting established goals, and lists all staff, Balarat Council Presidents and Eco-Intern/Seminar students from 1969 through 2002.
Copies may be purchased the Balarat Office for $20. For more information, contact Patrick Emery, 720-424-9445.
