Second Annual East High School Pow-Wow Is Saturday, Feb. 25

The second annual East High School Pow-Wow is Saturday, Feb. 25 in the school's Panek Gym. This "East Students for Native American Awareness" Pow Wow begins with gourd dancing at 11 a.m. featuring John Belo Cozad (Kiowa) as the Head Young Man.

The grand entry is set for 1 p.m. The festivities will feature Master of Ceremonies Lance Allrunner (Kiowa/Cheyenne/Comanche); Arena Director Gerald Montour, Sr. (Diné/Mohawk); Head Young Man Matthew Little (Dakota); Head Young Lady Roberta "Birdie" Garcia (Diné); an invocation by Charles Bear Robe; Host Northern Drum Black Horse; and Host Southern Drum Pawnee Spotted Horse.

The event also will feature special contests: a two-step contest (sponsored by Matthew Little and Family); a hand drum contest (sponsored by Gracie Tyon and DPS Indian Education Program Office); a hand game tournament (sponsored by East High Indian Club); a chicken dance special (sponsored by DPS Indian Education Program Office); a cake walk and more.
