Orangu-Tones, Reals, Falling Rock, Panic, Horse Thief, Denver School Of The Arts Jazz Link And Teller/Dora Moore Elementary School Band Set To Play "Tellerpalooza III" On Saturday, April 29 At Mercury Café; Benefit Will Support Teller Elementary School
"Tellerpalooza III" - an evening that will benefit Teller Elementary School, Congress Park neighborhood's best kept secret - will feature the best of the Denver music scene at the Mercury Café in downtown Denver. The event is Saturday, April 29 beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15.
"This is becoming a lively annual event that has a proven track record for bringing the community together to support Teller Elementary School, truly a hidden gem," said PTSA President Michele Foust. "The Rocky Mountain News recently analyzed Teller's test scores and deemed the results a 'success' and we have received a Gainmaker Award for improvements in achievement from the state of Colorado as well. Tellerpalooza is a great chance for the community to support the school and to sample great local entertainment at a terrific price."
The musical line up for 2006 includes:
The Orangu-Tones. Called "the best dance band in Denver" by The Denver Post, the Orangu-Tones have gained a strong following for their recreations of the time and soul of 1962. Said The Denver Post: "It's impossible to review an Orangu-Tones show without saying this is the best dance band in Denver... (They) blurt out frat rock that makes it impossible to stay still." The band has released two full length albums on the Wormtone label. More information: www.orangu-tones.com.
The Reals. Their CD, "Majestic," has earned the Reader's Choice award as best CD from Westword. One of Denver's most engaging live bands, The Reals have toured the western United States with their eclectic and original roots style.
Falling Rock. Classic rock and roll is at the heart of Falling Rock, frequently found performing at Bourbon St. in the Denver Tech Center or at The Ranch Grill near Conifer. Think Beatles, Stones, Santana, The Doors, classic Motown, Brit Pop and more.
The Panic. These four young Denverites (ages 13 and 14) bring a mix of classic and contemporary rock music, along with an impressive selection of original material. With skilled guitar work and melodic vocals, The Panic has a sound that is certainly beyond their years.
Horse Thief. A favorite of musicians and audiences alike. Through different changes in their line-up, one thing remains constant: a fascination with the darker themes of life and love.
"Tellerpalooza" also will feature performances by the Denver School of the Arts Jazz Link and the combined concert bands of Teller Elementary School and Dora Moore, a K-8 School in nearby Capitol Hill.
Tickets are available by calling 303-598-0061. Tickets also will be available at The Mercury Café door, located at 2199 California St. in downtown Denver. This year's event is being generously supported by Modern Woodmen of America and local Congress Park merchants.
"Tellerpalooza" will benefit Teller Elementary School, Congress Park's neighborhood school.
Teller, located at 1150 Garfield St., boasts a renovated, state-of-the-art facility where enrollment reflects Denver's cultural diversity. The involved community and staff promote the value of a solid educational foundation and provide students with the tools for achieving high academic standards, including a comprehensive curriculum, challenge and enrichment programs, on-site child care, full-day kindergarten and an experienced, caring faculty. The school's telephone number is 303-333-4285.
