Choice Enrollment Fair For Manual High School Students And Parents Is Thursday, Feb. 23

Parents and students are invited to attend a mini "choice fair" from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23 to help families at Manual High School choose a new school for next year. A second choice fair is planned for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 16.

The meeting this week will begin in the school auditorium (1700 E. 28th Ave.) with an overview of the choice process and how it will work. In addition, representatives from Denver high schools will briefly present general information about their schools. Following the presentations, parents and students will be able to meet with high school staff, ask questions and complete application forms at various booths and classrooms nearby.

The Board of Education voted Feb. 16 to close Manual High School (1700 E. 28th Ave.) for one year and reopen the school with freshmen only in the fall of 2007. Grades 10, 11 and 12 will be added one year at a time.

Current Manual High School students have the option of applying to attend East, George Washington, John F. Kennedy, South or Thomas Jefferson high schools. Students may also apply to attend any other Denver high schools. Applications are due by Friday, March 24.

The School of Choice Office has set a goal of Friday, April 14 for letting all Manual students know which school they will attend next year. Students will be asked to list their top three choices for schools they prefer; every attempt will be made to reassign students to their first choice but in some cases alternate choices may be used due to space limitations.
