The second of two Denver Public Schools cluster oral spelling bees will be held from 9:15 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 at multiple locations:

In an effort to prepare students for the state spelling bee on Saturday, March 25, Denver Public Schools sponsors a series of four spelling competitions open to students through eighth grade. The program - SEMANTICS - is designed to help students improve their spelling, vocabulary, language and reading skills.

The district's two oral spelling bees help students practice the "bee" style competition in a small setting. The first district-wide competition is the city written spelling contest on Thursday, March 2 at Temple Emanuel; each school sends 10 student competitors. From there, the top 25 spellers go to the city oral spelling bee on Thursday, March 16 at Place Middle School and to the Rocky Mountain News 2006 Colorado Spelling Bee on March 25 at the Colorado Convention Center. The Colorado winner will represent the state at the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee, May 31-June 1, in Washington, D.C.
