Western Theme Planned For Centennial K-8 School's Literacy Night - Tuesday, Jan. 10
Community members are invited to dust off their cowboy boots and hats and attend the Literacy Night and Chili Cook-Off at Centennial K-8 School on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
The event will kick off with a variety of speakers at 3:15 p.m. including "Stories on Stage" presented by Angela Knopf, "Early Denver City" by Caron Stone, "Stories from the Olden Days" by Oscar Pate, "Colorado History from a Child's Perspective" by Sue Luxa, and "Denver Ethnic History" by Rebecca Hunt. Each presentation will run for 30 minutes and repeat at 3:45 p.m.; attendees can select two speakers.
From 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., the event will include a chili sampling and contest in the school lunchroom, along with western line dancing in the gymnasium. Proceeds from this portion of the event - $2 per person - will be used toward purchasing books for classroom libraries.
