Joint Statement From Denver Public Schools, Denver Classroom Teachers Association And Individual Plaintiffs To Lawsuit Concerning North High School

Denver Public Schools, the Denver Classroom Teachers Association and the individual plaintiffs to the lawsuit concerning North High School have amicably settled this lawsuit out of court.

DPS wishes to make it clear that these individuals were transferred from North High School during a difficult and confusing year. The individuals were not transferred for poor performance nor for a lack of qualifications - and the district wants to ensure that there are no negative connotations associated with their transfers. The transfers did not put into question in any way their dedication and commitment to students and other colleagues. They were and continue to be highly qualified personnel.

The parties agree that the administrative transfer provisions in the DPS/DCTA Agreement should never be employed in retaliation for the exercise of constitutionally protected rights, including the right of free speech.

We wish to make it eminently clear that the district and union place a high value on these professionals and the work they do.
