"Mathletics" District Contest Winners Announced
Sixth, seventh and eighth graders from 16 schools competed in the Denver Public Schools "Mathletics" competition on Saturday, Jan. 21 for individual and team honors.
Mathletics is a Denver Public Schools competition designed to expand the depth and breadth of students' knowledge of math concepts. Competition consists of rounds in which students individually tackle a variety of math problems and a round during which teams of students work together.
The results from Denver's Jan. 21 qualifying competition are:
Sixth grade individual winners: first place, Brad Pearlman from Morey Middle School; second place, Sam Fink from Morey Middle School; third place, Emma Thompson from Morey Middle School; fourth place, Rajeev Vishwamitra from Morey Middle School; fifth place, Sarah Pierce from Hamilton Middle School; and sixth place, Westin Ellis from Odyssey Charter School. Honorable mentions went to: Gretchen Gomer from Henry Middle School; Andrew Jensen from Morey Middle School; Annie Want from Odyssey Charter School; and Kayla Mees from Grant Ranch K-8 School.
Sixth grade team honors went to Morey Middle School (first place), Hamilton Middle School (second place) and Grant Ranch K-8 School (third place).
Seventh/eighth grade individual winners were: first place, Tom Roberts from Morey Middle School; second place, Evan Webber from Slavens K-8 School; third place, Matt Gomer from Henry Middle School; fourth place, David Harrington from Grant Middle School; fifth place tie, Jordan Shelton from Morey Middle School and Kosuke Yoskinaga from Slavens K-8 School; and sixth place, Trevor Landgren from Slavens K-8 School. Honorable mentions went to: Cody Sickler from Henry Middle School; Walter Zavala from Park Hill K-8 School; and Tyler Conant from Henry Middle School.
The top placing seventh/eighth grade teams were Slavens K-8 School Team A (first place), Morey Middle School Team A (second place) and Henry Middle School Team A (third place).
