CEC Middle College Of Denver's Crime And Forensics Program Introduces Emergency Dispatch Class For 2006-2007 School Year

CEC Middle College of Denver is introducing an emergency telecommunicator course for the 2006-2007 school year. The course is designed to prepare high school students to work in the 911 field.

The course presents actual 9-1-1 calls and scenarios designed to give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and learn from experience. The course will be incorporated into the Crime and Forensics course already being offered.

At the completion of the 40-hour course and the ETC test, students will tour the state patrol dispatch center and gain ETC certification through the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch. Stacey Hervey is the Crime and Forensics instructor for CEC Middle College of Denver and is a Certified ETC instructor for the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch.

ETC certification is gained through the completion of the 40-hour course and a passing score on a written examination. Students who wish to be certified as professional emergency telecommunicators by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch must:

The Career Education Center (CEC) Middle College of Denver serves students in grades 9-12. This premier career and technical school allows high school students to earn credits toward a college associate's degree while taking courses at Community College of Denver. The middle college program is an intensive full-day program offering technology-based academic coursework and career studies. Students learn from experienced industry professionals as they prepare for the growing demands of the 21st century workplace or the college setting.

The school currently enrolls 330 full-time students and 350 part-time students from Denver's 12 neighborhood high schools. The part-time program is open to any Denver Public Schools student. Students earn 15 credits for spending half their day at the CEC Middle College of Denver.
