Reception For PTA "Reflections" Art Competition Is Wednesday, Jan. 25

"Reflections" is an art competition sponsored by the National PTA that is open to all students whose schools are PTA/PTSA schools in good standing. The Reflections program was created by Mary Lou Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colo. The project grew out of a resolution passed at the 1968 National PTA Convention, directing schools to encourage and strengthen cultural arts within the curriculum and also as an extra activity. It has since become a National PTA program, embracing students in grades kindergarten through twelve.

This year, nine Denver schools (Dora Moore K-8 School, East High School, Ellis Elementary School, Hill Middle School Campus of Arts & Sciences, Montclair School of Academics & Enrichment, Park Hill K-8 School, Place Middle School, Steck Elementary School and Steele Elementary School) participated in the event and 230 entries were submitted. This year's theme is "I wonder why..." and the theme drew entries in visual art, music composition, photography, and literature. Winners from the district level will compete at the state level.

A "Reflections" reception for participants will be held at Place Middle School (7125 Cherry Creek Dr. N.) on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Winners will be announced at the reception.
