The Board of Education will hold a 4 p.m. DCTA/DPS Joint Market Compensation Task Force meeting, a 5 p.m. regular meeting and 6 p.m. public comment session on Thursday, Jan. 19.
The 4 p.m. meeting is a presentation on Market Compensation Task Force recommendations (the task force is a joint effort of the district and the Denver Classroom Teachers Association; it was born out of the 2004-2005 negotiations).
Highlights of the 5 p.m. regular meeting are:
- Update on The Denver Plan.
- Action on the proposed pupil assignment plans at the new Montbello Village Place and Green Valley Ranch Picadilly K-8 schools in northeast Denver.
- Action on the proposed 2006-2007 traditional school year calendar.
- Motion to ratify a construction contract with Brown Schrepferman & Co. for remodeling projects at Crofton, Ebert, Harrington, Mitchell and Stedman elementary schools and Morey Middle School.
- Motion to ratify a construction contract with Turner Construction for remodeling projects at Asbury, Ellis, Knight Academy and Lincoln elementary schools, Merrill Middle School and Slavens K-8 School.
- Motion to approve a construction contract with White Construction Company for the Baker Middle School Renovation.
- Motion to approve authorization for the solicitation for a natural gas contract.
- Motion to appoint a representative to the Denver Public Schools Retirement System Board.
- Motion to appoint Amy Friedman to the Pioneer Charter School Governing Board.
- Resolution proposing a 2006 General Obligation Bond Ballot Initiative for the November 7, 2006, General Election (The Board will be asked to approve a resolution proposing the formation of a Citizens Ad Hoc Committee on Facility Needs to assist Denver Public Schools in collaboratively developing a plan to address the advisability of pursuing a General Obligation Bond ballot initiative for the November 7, 2006, general election).
- Discussion and possible action on the proposed settlement agreement for a lawsuit brought by former North High School employees.
The Board also will consider a draft 2006-2007 continuous-year school calendar and a staff proposal that the district operate all schools on the same schedule beginning with the 2007-2008 school year. Per the proposal, the 17 elementary schools currently on the continuous-year calendar may choose to switch to the traditional calendar this fall instead of waiting another year. Final adoption of the 2006-2007 continuous-year calendar is expected by the end of this month.
