American Solar Energy Society Chooses Del Pueblo K-8 School To Receive Photovoltaic System This Summer
The American Solar Energy Society (ASES) has named Del Pueblo K-8 School as the 2006 ASES Legacy School and announced that the school's photovoltaic (PV) system will be installed this summer.
ASES established the Legacy Adopt-A-School Program in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy-Smart Schools in 2001 to support solar education, solar career development and energy leadership in academically challenged, ethnically diverse and economically disadvantaged communities. The program is designed to encourage quality teaching and learning about solar energy, renewable technologies and applications and related topics. It provides ongoing solar education and other resource support to a selected school in the location of each annual ASES national solar energy conference.
Each school chosen to be part of the program receives a PV system, complimentary library subscription to "Solar Today" and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council's "Going Solar" kit.
In addition to the PV installation, one teacher at each Legacy School receives a scholarship to the National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) summer training for teachers. Each teacher will spend five days learning about energy and then implement the NEED curriculum activities at his or her school the following academic year. The school will receive all supporting NEED classroom materials. Each Legacy School will also receive copies of the Energy Smart Schools' "Get Smart About Energy" CD, which contains more than 250 K-12 classroom activities.
Other Legacy Schools are located in Reno, Nev.; Austin, Texas; Orlando, Fla.; and Portland, Ore.
Del Pueblo K-8 School is located at 750 Galapago St. The phone number is 303-629-1473.
