DPS Students Of All Ages Will Perform At Citywide Choir Concert Saturday, Nov. 19
From 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 more than 300 Denver Public Schools elementary, middle and high school students will perform the Citywide Choir Concert at South High School. This free concert has been an annual tradition since 1931.
The concert will convey a variety of styles, primarily in the arts, including an African piece performed by the middle school students. Most pieces will be accompanied by piano.
There also will be three guest conductors: art specialist Kevin Fletcher will lead the elementary school students, Metropolitan State College of Denver instructor Margie Camp will conduct for the middle school students and retired East High School choral director Jim Guinn will head the high school students. These volunteers have worked with the students to refine their performance of choral works in order to communicate the expressive qualities of the music.
Participating students were selected through auditions from over 55 schools in the district. Middle and high school students will rehearse all day Friday, Nov. 18 at Cole College Prep Charter: A KIPP Transformation School. On Saturday, Nov. 19 all students will report to South High School to rehearse throughout the morning and perform the concert in the afternoon.
South High School is located at 1700 E. Louisiana Ave. The phone number is 720-423-6000.
