Hill Student Wins Second Place In Hispanic Heritage Art And Essay Contest
Camille Farris, an eighth-grade student at Hill Campus of Arts & Sciences, has won second place in the 2005 Hispanic Heritage Art and Essay Contest sponsored by Ford Motor Company and The Denver Post.
Camille's portrait of Frida Kalo was one of four entries selected from hundreds sent in from all over the state. She received a $1,200 award at a reception in September. Congratulations to Camille, who has made this the second year in a row for Hill to be recognized in this prestigious competition!
Hill is one of 12 schools rolling out new programs this year thanks to $2.5 million from Denver voters to identify attractive educational programs and increase student enrollment in neighborhood schools.
The Hill plan calls for a primary focus in two areas: infusion of state-of-the-art computer technology into all areas of student learning; and expansion and enrichment of the elective arts program and after-school enrichment and tutoring.
The "campus" part of the plan means that selected classes and teachers are shared between Hill students and those at surrounding elementary schools. Steck Elementary School is located to the west of Hill and serves as the first school to test the concept - sharing instrumental music instructors, for instance.
Additionally, the revitalization plan calls continues a strong academic Honors Program.
Hill Campus of Arts & Sciences is located at 451 Clermont St. The school's telephone number is 720-423-9680.
