Musical Group Teaches Voice Workshop At Harrington Elementary School, Thursday, Sept. 8; Evening Concert Is Open To Public

Harrington Elementary School students will participate in a voice workshop taught by the a cappella group No Better Cause on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Following the workshop No Better Cause and the students will hold a concert at the school beginning at 6 p.m. The concert is open to the public.

No Better Cause is a five-man a cappella group from Lincoln, Neb. The group, which formed in 2002, performs pop, funk and rock music. No Better Cause has recorded and produced four albums and was the winner of The 2005 Rocky Mountain Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival's "Best Original Song" award.

Harrington Elementary School music instructor Sarah Johnston said the opportunity for students to participate in this interactive art program was made possible by the use of mill levy funds approved by Denver voters in 2003.

"The mill levy dollars have helped revitalize the missing components of art within our schools," Johnston said.

Johnston is planning to form a school choir this year at Harrington. Currently each of the 550 students at Harrington Elementary School takes weekly choir lessons from Johnston.

During the workshop students will learn about the fundamentals of harmony, pitch, chord and blending.

Johnston said that most importantly students will also learn about the perseverance and hard work that is required for No Better Cause to create their beautiful melodies.

Harrington Elementary School is located at 2401 E. 37th Ave. The school's telephone number is 303-333-4293.
