East High School To Hold Hurricane Katrina Benefit Dinner And Concert Friday, Sept. 23
On Friday, Sept. 23 East High School will host a Hurricane Katrina benefit dinner and concert. All money raised will be donated to Habitat for Humanity to assist in the rebuilding of New Orleans.
The fundraiser will be open to the public, and tickets can be purchased at the door, with the dinner and concert costing $17 for adults and $10 for students. Dinner alone or concert alone tickets will be $10 for adults and $7 for students. Students must show their current school ID. Dress will be causal.
The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. The menu will consist of gumbo, red beans n' rice, and cornbread, all donated by Gourmet Fine Catering. Beverages will be provided by Safeway, along with dessert pralines that will be donated by parents.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m. after the dinner. It will be an East Angel showcase, including student performances from the school band, choir, pom squad, speech and drama departments.
This event is sponsored by the East High School Black Student Alliance, Student Council and National Honor Society. This is not their first attempt at fundraising for Katrina. On Friday, Sept. 9, the student organizations donated over $2,100 to the American Red Cross through coins collected by students.
With the anticipation of Hurricane Rita, the organization officers and faculty are discussing the possibility of splitting the profits to assist Galveston, Texas if needed also.
