Denver Public Schools Annual Cadet Commissioning Ceremony Is Tonight - Wednesday, Sept. 21

The annual Cadet Commissioning Ceremony is a military tradition in which cadets who will begin a new leadership role this school year take an oath to take charge and assume the responsibility that is required of their new positions.

This year's ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 21) in the auditorium at Cole College Prep Charter: A KIPP Transformation School. Principals from each Denver high school have been invited to attend.

There are 31 JROTC programs in Colorado and Denver Public Schools has more JROTC cadets than any other district. Currently, there are more than 1,600 cadets enrolled in the district.

During the ceremony pictures will be taken with each of the school's commanders and staff as well as the All-City Brigade commander and his staff.

Four cadets being commissioned today from the East High School battalion have been selected to attend the first-ever JROTC symposium at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. The four cadets will represent an eight-state region at the JROTC Marshall Foundation Leadership Symposium.

The cadets were selected to attend the symposium after each submitting an essay that included at least one of the principles emphasized by the symposium namesake, George Marshall. Each cadet was also required to have an overall 3.0 GPA, a 3.5 median JROTC GPA and to have contributed to a collective 600 hours of community service.

Cole College Prep Charter: A KIPP Transformation School is located at 3240 Humboldt St. For more information, contact Perry Roberts, Denver Public Schools JROTC, at 720-423-9201.
