Deluxe Corporation Foundation Donates $15,000 Grant To Reading Recovery, Descubriendo La Lectura
The Deluxe Foundation's Reading Is For Life program has donated $15,000 to support two reading programs in Denver Public Schools - Reading Recovery and its Spanish-language counterpart, Descubriendo La Lectura.
Reading Recovery and Descubriendo La Lectura (DLL) are designed to assist students who struggle with reading so they can profit from regular classroom instruction. Instruction consists of daily 30-minute, one-on-one lessons specifically designed for each student. The program incorporates good practice as endorsed by the National Reading Panel Report and includes instruction in the five essential elements under the No Child Left Behind legislation.
The $15,000 grant will be used for additional mentoring and instructional services of a new DLL teacher leader, conference attendance for up to 12 Reading Recovery and DLL teachers, and a three-hour linguistics course for all Reading Recovery and DLL teachers.
Bryant-Webster Dual Language K-8 School and eleven elementary schools in Denver - Beach Court, Castro, Cheltenham, Fairview, Goldrick, Knapp, Munroe, Remington, Schenck, Swansea and Teller - use the Reading Recovery or DLL programs.
Since 1954, the Deluxe Corporation Foundation has contributed more than $77 million to the communities where Deluxe Corporation facilities are located.
We deeply appreciate the Deluxe Corporation Foundation for supporting our work with these students," said Maureen Kopet, Reading Recovery Teacher Leader. "This grant will have a direct impact on the quality of instruction for the students served by these programs."
