Denver School Of The Arts Teacher Shawn Hann Named Middle/High School Level Theater Educator Of The Year

Denver School of the Arts (DSA) teacher Shawn Hann is one of only seven people in Colorado recognized this year by the Alliance for Colorado Theater. She is the Middle/High School Level Theater Educator of the Year. This award recognizes Hann for making an impact on her students and her community and for being a strong advocate within her school.

At 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 in the lobby of the Denver Center Theater Tramway Building, the Alliance for Colorado Theater (ACT) will host a luncheon, recognizing these seven winners with their 2005 ACT Awards. All recipients will give a two-minute acceptance speech at the luncheon.

The Alliance for Colorado Theater takes nominations for awards every March from theater educators throughout Colorado. Teachers that are nominated then gather letters of recommendation from peers, administrators, students, etc. The packets are then submitted to the ACT board, where all letters and resumes are examined thoroughly. The board then selects the winners.

The Alliance for Colorado Theater is the voice of theater education in Colorado. It provides continuing education conferences, sets professional standards for theater education, and sponsors forums for the exchange of ideas and information in theater. ACT supports teachers at all grade levels and subject areas who want to strengthen their curriculum with the use of theater. ACT also supports professional and community theaters, as well as business people and community members who strive to further the interests of theaters.
