Schenck Elementary School To Dedicate Learning Landscape And Classroom Additions Friday, Sept. 16
At 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 Schenck Elementary School will celebrate the completion of a new Learning Landscape and classroom additions.
Principal Kristin Nelson-Steinhoff will lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony that will include a slide show and authentic Mexican food for guests. Board of Education member Michelle Moss and Southwest Area Superintendent Joe Sandoval will be in attendance.
Learning Landscapes include a playfield, age-appropriate equipment, gardens, trees, non-traditional play features, shade structures, and a gateway to the neighborhoods. The objectives of the initiative include reducing discipline issues on school grounds, providing better physical education and resources for classroom projects, establishing a gathering place for neighborhood families and strengthening neighborhood-school partnerships.
The 16,422-square-foot classroom addition includes two Early Childhood Education, two kindergarten and three intermediate classrooms, plus a two-room demonstration classroom. The renovation features new carpet, windows and a boiler replacement. A fire protection system was added and the fire detection system also was upgraded.
These projects at Schenk Elementary School were funded through the $310 million general obligation bond approved by Denver voters in November 2003.
Schenck Elementary School is located at 1300 S. Lowell Blvd. The phone number is 303-935-4604.
