Denver School of the Arts students will recreate the artistic spirit of New Orleans at Skyline Park during a jazzy, carnivale themed fundraiser on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and next - Sept. 14, 15, 21 and 22 - to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The student-driven fundraiser will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at Skyline Park which is located on Arapahoe Street, between 15th and 16th streets. Students will perform on three soundstages; formal and informal street performances reminiscent of New Orleans will be presented. Students will be collecting cash donations to aide the victims of Hurricane Katrina during each afternoon of performances.
A culminating concert/event at the Denver School of the Arts from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 will conclude the fundraiser. The evening will feature performances by the Denver School of the Arts Orchestra, a visual arts display and traditional New Orleans cuisine.
Denver School of the Arts students are involved in planning all aspects of the fundraiser. Students are designing flyers and a logo for the event, costumes, stage design and technical support.
