New Superintendent Michael Bennet Is Focus Of September Edition Of "DPS Today" Television Show
The September 2005 edition of "DPS Today," the monthly television show about Denver Public Schools on Denver cable 8, features a conversation with new Superintendent Michael Bennet.
In June 2005 the Denver Board of Education unanimously appointed Bennet Superintendent of Denver Public Schools effective July 11, 2005.
Prior to his superintendency, Bennet served for two years as Chief of Staff to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper.
Aiming to create the finest big city school district in the country as measured by student achievement, attendance and college preparation, Bennet's plan of action for schools includes three specific goals:
First, deliver a safe and orderly environment in every school and every classroom.
Second, each school must have a highly skilled faculty with access to robust professional development and real-time assessment data that will allow teachers to better evaluate the progress children are making and where they might need extra help.
Third, each principal should be equipped to be the instructional leader for the faculty in their school.
The show can be seen on Denver cable 8 throughout the month at 8 a.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; at 8:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday; and at 1:30 p.m. every Sunday.
Denver stations 22 and 48 also re-broadcast "DPS Today." Channel 22 is the DPS channel on Comcast cable in Denver. Channel 48 is an ITFS microwave channel that is received only within DPS facilities and delivered on cable channel 48 in classrooms.
